American Educational Research Association (AERA)

The American Educational Research Association (AERA), founded in 1916, is the largest professional organization devoted to the scientific study of education and learning. Its mission is “to advance knowledge about education, to encourage scholarly inquiry related to education, and to promote the use of research to improve education and serve the public good”. As such, AERA strives for excellence in educational research through initiatives that support scholars from diverse backgrounds with innovative methods and ideas.

Throughout its long history, AERA has been dedicated to promoting a deep understanding of issues related to teaching and learning processes across all levels of schooling; early childhood development; curriculum design; assessment policies; race/ethnicity/classroom dynamics; language/literacy instruction; teacher preparation/certification; school-community partnerships as well as higher education access/success. It seeks also to expand knowledge regarding important aspects within special populations—such as students with disabilities or those living in poverty—as they relate to their academic achievement or lack thereof. In addition, AERA endeavors towards advancing new technologies which can enable more meaningful teaching practices while simultaneously providing alternative paths for student engagement within the classroom setting.

Every year thousands join together at AERA’s Annual Meeting & Exposition where members engage in discussions on current topics concerning educational research around the globe such as equity gaps among various demographics or global data analysis techniques used by researchers today. The event also provides a platform for showcasing cutting edge research findings along with resources enabling collaborations between likeminded individuals who are passionate about making an impactful contribution towards improving our nation’s schools systems through rigorous investigations into best practices that can be adopted across different contexts throughout K-12 settings nationwide.
