Discovered (DSCVR) is a NASA space telescope launched on February 11, 2015, which is designed to observe and characterize distant planets, dwarf stars, and interstellar media. The DSCVR mission will also search for evidence of dark matter and dark energy in the universe. The telescope has a 1.8-meter primary mirror and a 0.4-meter secondary mirror, and is equipped with four science instruments: two cameras, a spectrograph, and an infrared imager/spectrograph. The telescope’s orbit takes it out beyond the Moon to what is called Lagrange point 1 (L1), where the combined gravitational pull of the Sun and Earth cancels out allowing DSCVR to maintain a constant view of our star while avoiding interference from our planet’s light and heat.
