Flinders University is a public university in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1966, it is the third oldest university in Australia. It is named after British explorer Matthew Flinders, who led the first circumnavigation of Australia and is credited with naming South Australia. The university has five campuses: two in Adelaide (Bedford Park and Tonsley), two outer metropolitan campuses (Victoria Square and Sturt) and one rural campus (Waite). With more than 32,000 students, it is the fourth largest university by enrolment in South Australia. It offers courses in a wide range of disciplines including arts, business, education, law, medicine, nursing & health sciences, science and engineering.
The main campus is located at Bedford Park on the edge of Adelaide’s CBD. The campus covers an area of 168 hectares and includes several teaching and research buildings as well as administrative offices and student amenities. Facilities on the main campus include Libraries Central facilities; Computing Services; sport and recreation facilities; Flinders Medical Centre; Flinders Private Hospital; child care services; cafes, restaurants and bars. The main campus also houses the majority of the University’s research institutes and centres.
