George Institute for Global Health is a world-renowned scientific and medical research institute based in Sydney, Australia. The institute is dedicated to improving the health of populations around the world through innovation in health care delivery, research and policy. The George Institute has a strong focus on chronic disease prevention and management, with a particular emphasis on cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. The institute also conducts groundbreaking research into new medicines and technologies to improve the health of people living in resource-poor settings.
The George Institute was founded in 1999 by Professor Tony Capon, Dr Simon Stewart and Professor Bob Doughty with support from the Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centres Program. Since then, the institute has grown rapidly to become one of Australia’s leading medical research organisations. In 2013, the George Institute became an independent charity with global reach, supported by an endowment from The Myer Foundation.
The George Institute’s vision is “a world where no one dies or suffers from preventable chronic disease”. To achieve this vision, the institute undertakes four key areas of work:

Catalyzing change through influencing policymakers;

The George Institute for Global Health has achieved significant impact through its work over the past two decades. Notable achievements include:
Conducting ground-breaking clinical trials which have led to changes in international guidelines for treating heart attacks and strokes;
Establishing programs which have improved treatment for diabetes in low-resource settings;
Working with governments and civil society organizations to implement policies proven effective at tackling noncommunicable diseases (NCDs);
And training more than 15000 healthcare professionals across Asia Pacific region in best practice care for NCDs.
