Gladstone Institutes is a premier biomedical research organization in the United States. Founded in 1979, Gladstone is affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The Gladstone Institutes are located on UCSF’s Mission Bay campus.
The Gladstone Institutes conduct basic and clinical research to improve health and prevent disease. Their work spans a range of diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, HIV/AIDS, Lou Gehrig’s disease, mental illness, and Parkinson’s disease.
Gladstone scientists are internationally recognized for their discoveries. They have contributed to major advances in our understanding of how these diseases develop and progress—and how best to treat them.
The Gladstone Institutes comprises four independent research institutes: Institute of Cardiovascular Disease; Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease; Infectious Disease & Global Health Institute; and Virology & Immunology Research Center. Each institute has a unique focus and structure that allows its scientists to collaborate across disciplines to accelerate the pace of discovery.
In addition to its basic science laboratories, The Gladstone Institutes includes three state-of-the-art core facilities that provide essential services and resources to all of its investigators: Genomics Core Facility; Flow Cytometry & Cell Sorting Facility; Light Microscopy Facility.
