Johannes Gutenberg Universitaet Mainz (also known as JGU) is a German public research university located in the city of Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate. Founded in 1477, it is one of the oldest universities in the world and home to a number of renowned scholars. It was named after Johannes Gutenberg, who invented the printing press and is widely considered to be one of the most important figures in the history of Western civilization.

With over 36,000 students, JGU is one of the largest universities in Germany. It offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of disciplines including arts and humanities, business and economics, law, sciences, and social sciences.
