K Cor

by Liam O'Connor

K cor is an abbreviation for the Kelvin scale of temperature. It is a measure of absolute temperature named after the British scientist William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin (1824-1907). The unit of measurement is the same as that on the Celsius scale, but the zero point is set at absolute zero, -273.15°C or 0 K. This means that a difference of one kelvin between two temperatures is equal to a difference of one degree Celsius. The freezing point of water is 273.15 K (-0.15°C) and its boiling point 373.15 K (100°C). Room temperature is usually taken to be 20°C or 293 K.
