Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada of the United States. It is the largest alpine lake in North America, and at 122,160 acres (49,560 ha) and 22 miles (35 km) long, it is the 16th deepest lake in the world. Its depth averages 1,645 feet (501 m), with a maximum depth of 3,223 feet (983 m). Lake Tahoe is fed by 63 tributaries and has an outlet at its south end, draining into Pyramid Lake in Nevada. It has two major arms: North Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe. The Truckee River flows from North Lake Tahoe into Pyramid Lake.
