The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is one of the world’s leading research and teaching institutions. It is home to over 30 departments, covering a wide range of disciplines from architecture and engineering to humanities, sciences, and management.
The MIT Institute for Medical Engineering Science (IMES) was established in 2009 with the mission to bring together engineers and scientists from across MIT to solve important problems in healthcare delivery and medical technology. IMES is uniquely positioned at the intersection of engineering, medicine, and biology, with faculty members who are leaders in their fields. Our work spans a broad range of topics including: biomaterials & regenerative medicine; diagnostics & therapeutics; devices & implants; digital health & data science; imaging & optics; and systems biology & physiology.
We are committed to developing new technologies that will improve patient care and reduce healthcare costs. Our goal is to transform healthcare delivery by creating innovative solutions that are affordable, accessible, and sustainable. We partner with industry, government, foundation, and academic colleagues around the world to turn our discoveries into products and services that make a difference in people’s lives.
