Northern Arizona University (NAU) is a large public university located in Flagstaff, Arizona. It is one of the three state universities in Arizona and is a member of the Arizona Board of Regents. NAU was founded in 1899 as the first college in northern Arizona. It now has an enrollment of over 28,000 students and offers more than 160 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The university has an excellent reputation for its academic programs and research facilities, which include the Lowell Observatory, the Center for Astrophysics & Space Sciences, and the U.S. Geological Survey Astrogeology Science Center. NAU also operates a number of other research institutes and centers, including the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals, the Plateau Restoration Institute, and the Ecological Restoration Institute. The university’s athletic teams compete in Division I of the NCAA as members of the Big Sky Conference.
