Royal Holloway University of London (RHUL) is a public research university and a constituent college of the federal University of London. It has three faculties, 20 academic departments and approximately 9,000 students from over 100 countries. Royal Holloway was ranked 30th in the UK for employability in 2016.
The history of Royal Holloway University of London began with the founding of two colleges for women – Bedford College and Queen’s College, both located in central London – in 1849 and 1887 respectively. In 1900, these two colleges were merged to form the present-day institution. The campus at Egham Hill in Surrey was acquired soon afterwards and became the main site of Royal Holloway when it opened its doors to students in 1906.
RHUL is organised into three faculties – Arts & Social Sciences; Business, Economics & Information Systems; and Science – which are further divided into academic departments. The university offers undergraduate degree programmes in a wide range of subjects across all three faculties, as well as postgraduate programmes leading to degrees such as MA, MSc, MBA, PhD and DPhil.
Research plays an important role at Royal Holloway University of London. The institution is home to a number of world-renowned research centres, including the Centre for Security Studies (CSS), the Security Institute for Governance and Leadership in Africa (SIGLA) and the International Cybersecurity Centre (ICC).
