Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) is a public university in Barcelona, Spain. Founded in 1990, it is named after Catalan philologist Pompeu Fabra. UPF is one of the three institutions within the Barcelona Knowledge Hub, together with the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
The university offers bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and doctorates in a wide range of disciplines, organised into 10 faculties and schools: Arts and Humanities; Economics and Business; Education and Psychology; Health and Life Sciences; Information and Communication Technologies; Law; Philosophy, History and Culture; Social Sciences and Communication; Translation and Interpreting. Additionally, UPF houses 13 research centres.
Since its founding, more than 50,000 students have graduated from UPF. The university has been ranked among the best young universities in the world by several international rankings. In 2019 Times Higher Education ranked it as the world’s third best young university (under 50 years old), while Quacquarelli Symonds placed it as Europe’s fifth best young university (under 50 years old).
