The University of Calgary (UCalgary) is a public research university located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The University of Calgary started in 1944 as the Calgary branch of the University of Alberta, before it became an autonomous institution in 1966. It is now one of Canada’s top research universities and is a member of the U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities. The university has a strong focus on research and offers over 200 undergraduate programs and 170 graduate programs to its students.

The University of Calgary is home to 14 faculties which offer more than 250 academic programs. The faculties are: Faculty of Arts; Werklund School of Education; Haskayne School of Business; Cumming School of Medicine; Schulich School of Engineering; Faculty of Science; Faculty of Social Sciences; Faculty Humanities; Odette School Nursing; Alberta College Fine Arts (ACAD); Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy (ISEEE); Graduate Studies & Research and Continuing Education. In addition to these faculties there are also numerous institutes and centres which contribute to UCalgary’s research strength including: The Hotchkiss Brain Institute, Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases, McCaig Institute for Bone & Joint Health, O’Brien Institute for Public Health and many more.

The University Of Calgary was ranked 4th among Canadian medical-doctoral universities in Maclean’s 2020 rankings . In the same year, it was also recognized as one the country’s most research intensive universities with $581 million in external research funding coming into the institution. Notable alumni from UCalgary include astronaut Mike McKay, former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Olympic gold medalist Donovan Bailey and many more prominent figures across various industries .

With over 32000 students enrolled , UCalgary is one Canada’s largest universities. Located just north west downtown core ,the main campus covers 198 hectares making it one the largest urban campuses in North America . The university has 8 residence halls which can house up to 4000 students . There are also plenty off campus housing options available for students seeking alternatives to on campus living . On campus amenities include multiple libraries , recreation facilities , student services offices , health services & more .
