The University of Liverpool is a public university located in the city of Liverpool, England. Founded as a college in 1881, it gained its royal charter in 1903 with the ability to award degrees and is also known for its research. It is a member of the Russell Group of leading British research universities. The university has produced nine Nobel Prize winners, one Fields Medalist, three Turing Award winners, one Prime Minister, two Pulitzer Prize winners and two Grammy Award winners. As of 2019, there are 22 Fellows of the Royal Society amongst University staff.
