The University of Miami (UM) is a private research university in Coral Gables, Florida. Founded in 1925, the school is the oldest continuously operating university in Florida and is considered one of the nation’s top research universities. The university enrolls over 16,000 students from more than 140 countries.

The University of Miami has 11 schools and colleges: the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, the School of Architecture, the School of Law, theSchoolof Business Administration,theSchoolof Education and Human Development,theCollegeof Arts and Sciences,the Frost School of Music,theSchoolof Nursingand Health Studies,theSchoolof Communicationand Journalism,and Rosenstiel School for Advanced Studies. In addition to its main campus in Coral Gables, UM also operates satellite campuses in South Florida including locations in Downtown Miami (medical), Boca Raton (marine science), Jupiter (marine science), and Naples (marine science).

UM offers 136 undergraduate degree programs and 225 graduate degrees through its 11 schools and colleges. The school has a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching with small class sizes taught by world-renowned faculty; over two-thirds of classes have fewer than 20 students. The student-faculty ratio at UM is 10:1 and 71 percent of classes are taught by full-time faculty members. The average SAT score for incoming freshman is 1290 out of 1600 possible points – making it one of the most selective public universities in Florida – while ACT scores range from 27 to 31. In terms of gender distribution among undergraduates 56 percent are female while 44 percent are male; 55 percent of graduate students are female while 45 percent are male. Underrepresented minorities make up 23 percent of undergraduates while Hispanic or Latino students comprise 32 percent; African American students account for 9 percent; Asian American students 3 percent; White non-Hispanic students 34 percent; Multiracial 2 percent; Pacific Islander less than 1percent ;American Indian or Alaskan Native less than 1percent . Foreign Nationals make up 7 percent undergraduates at UM with Canada sending the most followed closely by India then China .
