NASA accomplished a huge goal as part of their supersonic quest mission! Plus, they prepared Orion’s wings to fly again and they also developed technologies to help deal with prevent wildfires. Read on to hear more about all these awesome things This Week at NASA!
The X-59 plane that is being built for NASA’s Quesst mission has been fitted with its tail section. Teams will be able to complete the last parts of wiring and testing before it goes on the ground. This special plane has been designed to fly at supersonic speeds without causing a loud sonic boom – only a ‘quiet thump’.
NASA is testing a particular kind of solar energy panel so that it can be used on the Orion spacecraft for the Artemis II mission. This mission will take astronauts around the Moon and then back to Earth, which will be their first trip like this!
NASA’s ACERO project is using drones and advanced flight technology to help coordinate firefighting activities. This tech can give responders information about other aircraft near them as well, so they stay safe while using drones. With this extra knowledge, firefighters can better use drones in their work.
NASA’s Lucy spacecraft has snapped its first pics of four asteroids, called Eurybates, Polymele, Leucus, and Orus. These asteroids are so far away that they appear to just be little points of light in the photo from a distance of more than 330 million miles! But the imaging data from the picture still helps scientists prepare for the mission’s close-up observations down the line. That’s what’s new this week @NASA …
