NASA has chosen Axiom Space to make special spacesuits for the first astronauts who will be exploring the south pole on the Moon. All of this was revealed at an event in Texas, which NASA attended to check out the new prototype suit.

NASA is going to send people, including the first ever female, to land on the Moon as part of a mission to explore and study it. A company called Axiom Space has made a special spacesuit for these astronauts that will protect them while they’re there. It’s called an AxEMU and it uses the latest technology with extra mobility features so that its users are better protected from any potential dangers at the Moon.
NASA decided to buy activities related to space exploration from Axiom Space. This arrangement gives Axiom the chance to get customers for its services while also providing NASA with data and technology they can use in the future.
NASA is helping create a space economy that allows humans to explore the moon safely and smartly. Lara Kearney, who works at NASA in the Extravehicular Activity and Human Surface Mobility program, said this will be done by using both industry capabilities and NASA’s expertise.
NASA has done a lot of work in developing spacesuits, and Axiom Space is using all the experience, knowledge and data gained from NASA’s xEMU development for their own AxEMU suit. This includes advancements that make it more comfortable and agile for astronauts, but also making sure it is compatible with other NASA systems. Basically, leaning on what NASA did before is helping Axiom Space to reduce risks when creating the new suits.
NASA created some rules and safety measures for a suit called “AxEMU”. It can be used to explore the moon and fits almost everyone in America, both male and female. Axiom Space is going to use advanced technology to make the suit even better.
Axiom Space has been tasked with designing, building, testing and producing special suits for astronauts to wear for their Artemis III mission. They will have these suits tested in a situation that is similar to being in space before the astronaut’s actual mission. NASA is the one responsible for all of the training, planning and actually approving the suit’s effectiveness for use on this mission.
NASA is using the Exploration Extravehicular Activity Services (xEVAS) contract in order to take care of both space and moon walking needs. Collins Aerospace was just given a task order to make spacesuits for astronauts who will be doing spacewalks near the International Space Station (ISS). In the future, NASA will use this same contract to find two different vendors that can provide spacewalking and moonwalking services.
