Child Safety at Risk: Alarming Findings Show Most U.S. Children Use Potentially Toxic Cosmetics and Body Products

For parents, nothing is more important than keeping their children safe. But recent findings show that the majority of U.S. children are at risk of being exposed to potentially toxic cosmetics and body care products. The concern has reached a fever pitch among health professionals, who point to the potentially serious health problems these items can cause. This article will discuss these alarming findings and why parents should be aware of the dangers they present to their children’s health.

Unsafe For Kids

A new study conducted by scientists from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and Earthjustice found that most children in the US use potentially hazardous cosmetic and body care products (CMBP). The research revealed that these products may contain high levels of toxic chemicals like lead, asbestos, PFAS, phthalates, and formaldehyde. These potentially dangerous substances are linked to cancer, developmental harm, and other serious health effects.

The study was conducted by surveying more than 1,800 parents with children up to age 12 who used CMBP such as baby shampoo, lotion, sunscreen, and makeup. The results showed that one-third of the surveyed children were Latino and they reported using CMBP more than other racial groups.

Due to these alarming findings, some states are considering tightening their consumer regulations around cosmetic and bodycare products for children. For example, New York State is currently debating a bill that would ban many potentially toxic ingredients in products marketed toward children. Unfortunately, very little is being done at the federal level to protect children from toxic chemicals in makeup and body products. This means that parents must take extra steps to ensure the safety of their children when it comes to purchasing makeup and bodycare items.

It is important for parents to be aware of the potentially hazardous ingredients in cosmetics and bodycare products for their children. By researching potential danger ahead of time, parents can make safer purchasing decisions and protect their kids from unnecessary exposure to lead, asbestos, PFAS, phthalates, and formaldehyde – all of which could cause severe health risks if used too frequently or without precautionary measures.

It is concerning to know that most U.S. children are using potentially toxic cosmetic and body products. We must hold manufacturers accountable and ensure those products are safe for our kids. We must also educate children and families on the potential risks and dangers of using potentially toxic products and promote safer alternatives. By educating our kids on the potential dangers of cosmetic and body products, we can ensure our children are safe and protected.
