American Physical Society (APS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing and promoting the knowledge of physics. Founded in 1899, it is one of the oldest physical science societies in the United States. The APS consists of over 50,000 members from around the world who are active in research, education, and outreach within the field of physics.

The American Physical Society publishes multiple journals which provide peer-reviewed content for scientists working on all topics related to physics. The flagship journal is Physical Review Letters which was established in 1958 and covers fields such as particle physics, condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, statistical mechanics, astrophysics, astronomy & astrophysics and general relativity & quantum cosmology. It also produces Physics Today magazine which provides news about advances in research along with feature stories that bring insight into cutting edge scientific developments to both physicists and non-physicists alike.

The APS also organizes several annual meetings including March Meeting which focuses on recent advances across many subfields of condensed matter theory; April Meeting showcasing new work by students; August Meeting concentrating on plasma science; October Topical Conference covering areas like nanotechnology or energy technology; November Meeting dealing mainly with educational issues; December meeting concentrating on computational biophysics; International Conference focusing on theoretical high energy phenomena and Quantum Electronics & Laser Science (QELS).

Furthermore APS hosts career resources for undergraduate students looking for information about internships or graduate school opportunities as well as faculty positions available at universities worldwide. Additionally there are programs such as Outreach Grants Program aimed at increasing public awareness about science through interactive activities with communities near institutions where advanced teaching takes place or providing funds for building/updating laboratories used by undergraduate students studying science courses like Physics I/II etc.. Finally there are awards given out every year recognizing excellence among researchers such as Fellowship Awards honoring those who have made extraordinary contributions to their field or Early Career Research grants allowing early stage investigators an opportunity to conduct innovative research projects outside traditional academic settings without relying solely upon government agency funding sources while establishing a foundation upon which they can continue their future studies independently within their chosen discipline area(s).
