Augusta University is a public research university located in Augusta, Georgia, United States. The university is one of four comprehensive universities in the University System of Georgia and is also the largest employer in the city of Augusta. Founded in 1828 as Augusta Medical College, it is the second oldest medical school in continuous operation in the United States after New York University School of Medicine. In 2018, US News & World Report ranked Augusta University as tied for #95 among all public national universities and tied for #153 among all national universities (both are 4-way ties). As part of its strategic plan “The Promise,” which was introduced by then-President Ricardo Azziz in 2009, Augusta University has set out to become one of America’s best comprehensive research institutions by 2025. In order to achieve this goal, AU has made significant investments in faculty recruitment, student support services, and research infrastructure.

Augusta University comprises eight colleges: Dental Medicine; Graduate Studies; Health Professions; Medicine; Nursing; Pharmacy; Public Health; and Allied Health Sciences. These colleges offer more than 200 degree programs at the bachelor’s level or above. With an enrollment of over 8200 students (as of Fall 2016), Augusta University is one of the largest comprehensive universities in Georgia. The majority of students are enrolled in health sciences programs offered by the Colleges of Dental Medicine, Graduate Studies, Health Professions, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy or Public Health. However, AU also offers a number of non-health related programs through its College of Allied Health Sciences and College of Arts & Sciences.

Augusta University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate degrees
