Basque Research is a scientific and technical site that aims to provide accurate and up-to-date information on all aspects of research in the Basque Country. The site is edited by an international team of experts in their respective fields, led by Dr. Jon Xabier Irigoyen, a renowned scientist and doctor of sciences who has been working in the field of research for over 20 years.
The Basque Country has a long tradition of excellence in research, dating back to the early days of the Spanish Empire. Today, the Basque Country is home to some of the world’s leading research institutions, including the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), which is ranked among the top 100 universities in Europe; and CIC bioGUNE, one of Spain’s premier life sciences research centers.
The UPV/EHU is home to over 30,000 students and 4,000 faculty members, making it one of Spain’s largest universities. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in disciplines such as engineering, humanities, medicine, business, and law. In addition to its main campus in Bilbao, UPV/EHU also has campuses in Vitoria-Gasteiz and San Sebastián.
CIC bioGUNE is a world-renowned center for life sciences research located in Bilbao. The center specializes in biomedicine and biotechnology, with a focus on cancer research. CIC bioGUNE has over 250 scientists from more than 30 different countries working on cutting-edge research projects. In addition to its state-of-the-art laboratories, CIC bioGUNE also has an extensive network of industry partners and collaborators worldwide.
