Chemical engineering is the use of chemical reactions to produce useful products or to solve problems. It includes the design and operation of equipment and processes for making chemicals and other materials, the study of how these materials interact, and the development of new ways to use them.
Chemical engineers apply their knowledge of chemistry, biology, physics, math, and economics to find efficient ways to make new products or improve existing ones. They also work on projects such as developing alternative energy sources and cleaning up environmental contamination. Many chemical engineers work in manufacturing industries, but others work in food processing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, biotechnology, nanotechnology, semiconductor fabrication
and environmental protection.
