Children’s National Hospital (CNH) is a children’s hospital located in Washington, D.C., United States. It is affiliated with George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and is the largest children’s hospital in the Washington metropolitan area. The main campus of Children’s National is on Michigan Avenue in Northwest Washington. In addition to its main campus, Children’s National operates several outpatient centers and programs throughout the region, including satellite locations in Maryland and Virginia.
Founded in 1870 as the Home for Aged and Infirm Colored Children, Children’s National has a long history of serving the community. Throughout its existence, the hospital has been at the forefront of pediatric care, research, and education. Today, Children’s National is one of only a few freestanding children’s hospitals in the United States that offers comprehensive pediatric care from birth to age 21 all under one roof.

Our cutting-edge facilities include an advanced Fetal Care Center where our team provides fetal diagnosis and treatment; an internationally recognized Cardiac Center that performs heart transplants; a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – one of only two such units in Washington, D.C.; and cancer center that treats more kids with cancer than any other institution in our region.. We also provide many unique services not typically found at other institutions such as our Aviation Program which flies critically ill babies and toddlers to our facility from around the world
