The CSIRO is an abbreviation for the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation. It is Australia’s national science agency, responsible for conducting scientific research to help solve problems facing Australia and the world.

CSIRO was established in 1926 by the Australian government as the Advisory Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (ACSIR). Its original purpose was to advise the government on how best to use science and technology to support economic development. Over the years, CSIRO has grown into a large organisation with a diverse range of capabilities and expertise. Today, it employs over 5500 scientists and engineers, making it one of Australia’s largest employers of scientific staff.

CSIRO conducts research in many areas, including agriculture, animal health, atmospheric science, biodiversity, climate change, computing, defence science, earth observation, energy efficiency , environmental management , food security , forestry , genomics , manufacturing , marine science , minerals exploration , new materials , radio astronomy telescopes , renewable energy sources such as solar power towers & wave energy converters & water resources . One of CSIRO’s most notable achievements is its role in developing Wi-Fi technology; CSIRO scientists invented the technology that allows devices to connect to wireless networks without wires.

CSIRO is headquartered in Canberra but has offices and facilities across Australia and overseas. It also operates a number of field stations where researchers can study natural ecosystems or conduct experiments under controlled conditions.
