Dilated Cardiomyopathy

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a type of heart failure. It occurs when the heart muscle becomes weak and enlarged. This makes it difficult for the heart to pump blood properly. As a result, the body does not get enough oxygen-rich blood. DCM can lead to serious complications, including heart failure and sudden cardiac death.

The cause of DCM is often unknown. However, it can be caused by a variety of factors, including viral infections, genetic abnormalities, uncontrolled high blood pressure, and diabetes. Treatment for DCM typically includes medications to help improve heart function and relieve symptoms. In some cases, a heart transplant may be necessary.

DCM is a serious condition that requires prompt medical attention. If you or someone you know has symptoms of DCM, such as shortness of breath or chest pain, contact your doctor immediately.
