Federal University of Goiás (UFGO) is a public university in the state of Goiás, Brazil. Founded in 1960, it is one of the oldest universities in the state. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields, including engineering, medicine, and law. The university has a strong research program and is home to several centers of excellence.
The Federal University of Goiás was founded on July 13, 1960 by federal law No. 4384. It was the first federal institution of higher education in the state of Goiás and one of the first in Brazil’s Midwest region. The university started with just over 200 students enrolled in its inaugural class. Today, UFGO has an enrollment of over 27,000 students across its various campuses.
UFGO offers undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields, including engineering, medicine, law, business administration, economics, agronomy, architecture & urbanism , dentistry , information technology , journalism , nursing , veterinary medicine , psychology , social sciences , and humanities . The university also has a strong research program with over 60 research groups active across its various campuses.
Several centers of excellence are housed at UFGO, such as the Center for Research on Tropical Diseases (CEPIDT), the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence Applied to Health (LAIIS), and the Center for Nanotechnology & Advanced Materials (CENAPAD). These centers are engaged in cutting-edge research on topics such as disease control & prevention , medical diagnosis & treatment , artificial intelligence & health informatics , nanotechnology & advanced materials .
