The Galapagos Islands are a volcanic archipelago in the Pacific Ocean. The islands are home to a diversity of wildlife, including many endemic species. The Galapagos were discovered by Europeans in 1535 and have been an important scientific site since Charles Darwin’s work on the islands helped to formulate his theory of evolution by natural selection.
