HDAC2 is a protein encoded by the HDAC2 gene in humans. This protein belongs to the histone deacetylase family. Histone deacetylases are enzymes that remove acetyl groups from histones, resulting in the compacting of chromatin. This protein is primarily found in the nucleus and is thought to play a role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression, and developmental processes. Mutations in this gene have been associated with Sotos syndrome and Weaver syndrome.
