The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (אוניברסיטת העברית בי-רושלים, Ha’Universita ha’Ivrit bi-Yerushalayim) is Israel’s second oldest university established in 1918, 30 years before the establishment of the State of Israel. The Hebrew University has three campuses in Jerusalem and one in Rehovot. The world’s largest Jewish studies library is located on its Edmond J. Safra Givat Ram campus. According to the Times Higher Education World Ranking 2020, it is ranked 161st worldwide and 5th in Asia. It is also ranked as #1 Israeli university according to CWUR World University Rankings 2020. In 2019 QS World University Rankings ranks it at 135th globally and 4th in Asia. The Academic Ranking of World Universities 2019 ranks Hebrew U at 102nd place globally (and 3rd among Israeli universities). In 2020 Nature Index placed it at 106th place globally (and 3rd among Israeli universities)., making it one of only eight Israeli institutions featured in this index., which lists “the most productive institutions for high quality natural sciences research” as measured by their contributions to over 68 leading science journals..
