Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University (IKBFU) is a leading research and teaching university located in Kaliningrad, Russia. IKBFU was established in 2006 on the basis of two previously existing institutions: Kaliningrad State Technical University and Immanuel Kant State University of Russia. The university is named after the great German philosopher Immanuel Kant, who was born in Kaliningrad’s predecessor city, Königsberg.
IKBFU offers a wide range of educational programs at all levels, from undergraduate to postgraduate and doctoral studies. The university has nine faculties: Mechanics and Mathematics; Physics; Chemistry; Biology; Geography; History; Philology and Arts; Social Sciences; and Law. IKBFU also has a number of research institutes, including the Institute of Marine Biology, the Papanin Institute for Biological Studies, and the A. N. Bakh Institute for Biophysics.
The university’s strengths lie in its highly qualified staff and strong research base. IKFBFU has over 1,200 academic staff members, including more than 500 professors and associate professors. The university has an extensive network of international partnerships with leading universities and research institutes around the world. These partnerships provide opportunities for joint research projects, exchange programs for students and staff, and joint conferences and symposia.
IKBFU is one of the leading Russian universities in terms of the quality of its research output. In recent years, the university has been ranked among the top 200 universities in Europe by various independent international rankings (QS World University Rankings 2020/21). The university is also included in THE-QS World University Rankings 2021 as one of only three Russian universities to receive this recognition..
