Indiana University is a large public university in the United States. It was founded in 1820 and is located in Bloomington, Indiana. The university has over 110,000 students and 3,700 faculty members. Indiana University is a member of the Association of American Universities and the Big Ten Conference.

The main campus in Bloomington covers 1,937 acres (7 km2) making it one of the largest campuses in the United States. The campus is adjacent to Lake Monroe and features an extensive system of limestone quarries that were used during the construction of many buildings on campus. The limestone from these quarries was used to build most academic buildings on campus as well as Memorial Stadium . Other notable buildings on campus include Bryan House , Kirkwood Hall , Owen Hall , Sample Gates , Showalter Fountain , Simon Hall , Woodburn Hall .
