Massage is the manipulation of soft tissues in the body. Massage techniques are commonly applied with hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearms, feet, or a device. The purpose of massage is generally for the treatment of body stress or pain. A person who was professionally trained to give massages was traditionally known as a masseur (male) or a masseuse (female). The title massage therapist has been recognized as a business norm.

There are many different types of massages; however, Swedish massage is the most common type offered in most clinics, gyms and spas. This type of massage uses long strokes, kneading and circular movements on superficial layers of muscle using massage lotion or oil. deep tissue Massage is similar to Swedish massage but with deeper pressure focused on specific areas and muscles in order to release chronic tension or knots (trigger points). Some other popular types of massages include hot stone massage, shiatsu, trigger point therapy and sports massage.
