Michigan State University (MSU) is a public research university in East Lansing, Michigan, United States. MSU was founded in 1855 as the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan, one of the country’s first institutions of higher education to teach scientific agriculture. Today, MSU is one of the largest universities in the United States and has 563,000 living alumni worldwide. MSU is a member of the Association of American Universities and is classified as one of 115 first-tier research universities by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The university traces its origins to several different schools established by legislative acts over seven years; however, it was not until March 1857 that Michigan Governor Kinsley S. Bingham signed Thomas M. Cooley’s bill establishing an “Agricultural College for the State of Michigan.” The first classes were held on May 13, 1857.

The school developed rapidly during its early years, with programs being added in fields such as mechanics , horticulture , pharmacy , dentistry , medicine , architecture , engineering , veterinary medicine and home economics . In 1862 it was renamed “Michigan Agricultural College” (MAC),and under an 1863 Act passed by the Legislature MAC received land grants that helped move it toward normal school status . By 1925 all offerings at MAC were undergraduate degree programs . As World War II approached, many MAC students enlisted in various branches army air force . After WWII ended enrollment soared from just over 1,000 to nearly 8 times that amount . During this time MAC began offering graduate degrees for master’s level work and doctorates level work leading up today where MSU offers more than 200 undergraduate majors and more than 160 graduate degree programs offered through its 17 degree-granting colleges making it one state’s largest university campus by area size 2nd only to University Of California Davis which makes sense given that UC Davis Is a Land Grant college as well like MSU which are mandated to have large campuses relative to their peers because they offer unique resources related To their focus areas like Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine respectively while also fulfilling traditional roles expected From any major public university including business law medical etcetera so If you want agricultural sciences look no further than MSU or if you want a wide variety Of coursework With excellent professors then again look no further than Sparty Onward
