The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is an American agency responsible for the civilian space program as well as aeronautical research. Founded in 1958, it has become one of the world’s leading space agencies. Its Image of the Day website offers a stunning photo each day taken by one of its many spacecraft orbiting Earth or exploring our solar system.

This particular image comes from the Hubble Space Telescope and shows a star-forming region of our Milky Way galaxy teeming with young, hot stars. The stellar nursery is known as IC 1396 and is located in the constellation Cepheus about 3,000 light-years away. Images like this help astronomers better understand how stars form and evolve over time.
