Founded in 1887, North Carolina State University is a public research university located in Raleigh, North Carolina. NC State offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in over 300 fields of study through its 12 colleges and schools. The university’s research expenditures totaled $813 million in 2019, making it one of the largest universities in the United States by research spending.

NC State is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is classified as an R1 Doctoral University by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The university is also home to world-renowned centers and institutes such as the National Institute for Mathematical Sciences and the Institute for Advanced Materials.

NC State is consistently ranked among the top 100 public universities in the United States by various publications. For instance, U.S. News & World Report ranks NC State at #70 among all national universities as well as #34 among public universities. In addition, Forbes ranks NC State at #56 among all colleges and universities in America and at #15 among public schools.

The university enrolls over 34,000 students from all 50 states and more than 110 countries. Student life at NC State is vibrant with over 600 student organizations on campus including fraternities and sororities, cultural groups, service organizations, intramural sports teams, and more. The Wolfpack athletics program competes at the NCAA Division I level and fields 27 varsity teams that have won numerous conference championships and national titles over the years.
