Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is a private, non-profit university with its main campus in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. NSU consists of 18 schools and colleges offering more than 150 undergraduate, graduate, professional, and doctoral programs. NSU has campuses in Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Orlando, and Charlotte County; a virtual campus; an oceanographic center located on the John C. Gifford Jr. Memorial Reef off the coast of Fort Lauderdale; and a branch in Puerto Rico.
Founded in 1964 as Nova University by Drs. Abraham Fischler and Robert Haverland with the support of the local community to provide higher education opportunities for returning World War II veterans supported by the G.I Bill, today NSU is one of the largest independent institutions of higher education in the United States with over 32,000 students. The university offers degrees from diverse fields such as business administration, law, medicine (including osteopathic medicine), marine sciences, optometry, pharmacy, dentistry, physical therapy, occupational therapy,, nursing, allied health professions, audiology, speech-language pathology, informatics, psychology, public health, social work. In 2016 US News & World Report ranked NSU 5th among Regional Universities South for “Best Colleges for Veterans”. Additionally in 2016 Military Times ranked NSU as #38 on its list of “Best for Vets: Colleges”. In 2017 Money magazine ranked NSU as one of “America’s Best Value Colleges”.:1
The university sponsors intercollegiate teams competing at NCAA Division II level including baseball, basketball (men’s and women’s), cross country (men’s and women’s), diving (men’s and women’s), fishing team (coed bass fishing), golf (men’s only), lacrosse (women’s only), rowing (women’s only), soccer(men’s only until 2019 when it will be added for women too), softball(women only until 2020 when it will be added for men too),,,,,. The school colors are navy blue and silver gray.:3
