National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) is a part of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder. NSIDC manages scientific data, creates information products, and disseminates knowledge about Earth’s cryosphere, or frozen water realms. These include sea ice, land ice, snow cover, glaciers, ice sheets, lakes and rivers composed of frozen water, permafrost, and atmospheric water vapor.
The National Snow and Ice Data Center is one of the world’s premier cryospheric data providers. It offers a wide variety of digital and analog data products from its many field campaigns as well as from collaborating scientists around the world. The center also houses unique laboratory facilities for developing new instrumentation and for studying physical properties of snow, firn, ice cores, lake sediments, and rocks.
The mission of NSIDC is to advance our understanding of Earth’s cryosphere throughMeasurement; Modeling; Analysis; Synthesis; Archiving; Distributionand Outreach.
