The Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU-Poly) is an American private research university located in New York City. NYU-Poly was founded as the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1854, and became a constituent school of New York University in January 2014 after a merger with NYU. It is one of four engineering schools that belongs to the NYU Tandon School of Engineering.

NYU-Poly offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in several engineering disciplines and applied sciences, through its 17 departments and institutes. The most popular majors at NYU-Poly are Electrical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Chemical & Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Physics, Management Science & Engineering and Integrated Digital Media. In addition to these programs of study leading to Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees, NYU-Poly also offers professional doctoral degrees in applied mathematics and chemical engineering through itsmaths departmentandchemistrydepartmentrespectively.

The main campus of NYU-Poly is situated adjacent to Downtown Brooklyn in MetroTech Center; it occupies two city blocks bounded by Jay Street (north), Myrtle Avenue (east), Willoughby Street (south), and Duffield Street (west). A number of affiliated research centers are located nearby within MetroTech or elsewhere in Brooklyn. These include the Urban Future Lab(sustainability), the Data Future Lab(big data analytics), NSF I/UCRC Center for Advanced Technology Functional Fabrics(textiles), Next Generation Power Electronics Manufacturing Innovation Instituteor Energy Conversion Devices Consortium(power electronics), NYS Smart Grid Consortium(smart grid technologies), SENSORIS testbed for autonomous vehicles(IoT applications for transportation) among others.

The history of The Polytechnic Institute dates back to 1854 when it was founded as the Brooklyn Collegiate and Polytechnic Institute making it one oldest institutions technology education in United States. In 1862 degree programs were introduced leading to Bachelor Arts (A.B.), Bachelor Sciences (B.S.), Master Arts (M.A.) and Master Sciences (M .S.). First woman student was admitted into institute 1886 which also marked beginning coeducation at institute.. In 1901 name changed again this time to Polytechnic Institute America reflect expanding mission beyond purely technical training now included liberal arts courses needed complete college education..
