Red Bull Stratos

Red Bull Stratos was a space diving project involving Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner. He jumped from a helium-filled balloon in the stratosphere on 14 October 2012, reaching an altitude of 128,100 feet (39,045 m), or 24 miles (38.6 km), becoming the first person to break both the sound barrier and freefall altitude record without vehicular power relative to his launch point. The balloon used for the jump reached an exit altitude of 23 miles (37 km). A total of 3.8 million people watched live as Baumgartner broke both records.
