Shenyang Normal University is a public university located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China. It was established in 1952 and is one of the key institutions of higher learning in Liaoning Province. The university covers an area of 2,200 acres (890 hectares) with a total floor space of 1,600,000 square meters. It has a student population of over 30,000, including more than 22,000 full-time students and over 8,000 graduate students.
The university consists of 27 colleges/schools offering undergraduate programs and 21 research institutes. The disciplines cover 11 areas including literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering technology , economics management , law , education , fine arts and medicine . At present there are 78 undergraduate programs , 137 master’s degree programs and 13 doctoral degree programs . In addition to regular academic programs , the university also offers specialties such as physical education sports medicine art design musicology preschool education special education for children with mental retardation or hearing impairments . The university has set up 31 provincial – level or ministerial – level key laboratories and engineering centers . There are also 5 national bases for teaching Chinese as a second language and 4 training bases for international students who wish to study Chinese culture or learn about China’s socialist construction .
The library at Shenyang Normal University has a collection of over 3 million volumes , making it one of the largest libraries in northeast China . In addition to its traditional printed resources , the library also provides access to digital resources such as e-books , e-journals and databases . The university museum houses a collection of over 200,000 items ranging from ancient books and documents to modern paintings and sculptures .
Shenyang Normal University attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation . It has established cooperative relationships with over 100 universities and research institutes in more than 30 countries or regions around the world . Every year the university welcomes hundreds of international experts and scholars to give lectures or conduct research here . In recent years the number of overseas students studying at Shenyang Normal University has been on the rise ; currently there are nearly 2 thousand students from 80 different countries enrolled at the university
