Siegen University (German: Universität Siegen) is a public research university located in the city of Siegen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The university was founded in 1972 and is organized into five faculties. It has about 13,000 students enrolled and offers over 70 degree programs.

The University of Siegen was established in 1972 following an initiative by the then Minister for Education and Science, Heinz Riesenhuber. The new university was to be built on the site of the former Pedagogical Academy (German: Pädagogische Akademie), which had been founded in 1909 and closed in 1968. Construction work began in 1973 and the first students were admitted in 1975. In 1976, the university’s name was changed to Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU Münster) to reflect its status as a full-fledged university with teaching responsibilities in all major disciplines. However, after only two years the name was reverted to its original form.

The University of Siegen is organized into five faculties: Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Faculty of Physics, and Faculty of Law. In addition to these main faculties there are also several interdisciplinary research centers at the university. These include the Center for Research on Energy Systems (CES), the Center for Solar Energy Research ZSW/IEK5-SolarWorld AG (IEK5), and others.

The University of Siegen has a strong focus on research and offers many opportunities for students to get involved in cutting-edge projects. One such project is SmartGrid4EU which is developing new technologies for integrating renewable energy sources into Europe’s electrical grid system. Other notable research projects at Siegen include those conducted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Materials Research (IFAM) and DFG Research Center Matheon “Mathematics for Key Technologies” both of which are based at the campus grounds .
Apart from its excellent research facilities ,the University also provides top notch teaching facilities .It has state -of -the art laboratories like language labs , computer science labs etc that facilitate better learning experience among students .
