The Simons Foundation is a private foundation based in New York City. It was founded in 1994 by Jim and Marilyn Simons. The foundation focuses on supporting basic research in the sciences, mathematics, and engineering.
The Simons Foundation sponsors a number of programs aimed at advancing science and math education, including the Math for America program which provides support and resources for math teachers in the United States. The foundation also funds research on autism spectrum disorders through the Autism Research Initiative.
In addition to its work in education and scientific research, the Simons Foundation also supports arts and culture initiatives. One example is the Film Festival Awards Program which provides grants to film festivals around the world that promote films with social justice themes.
