Texas Tech University is one of the leading public research universities in the United States. The university is located in Lubbock, Texas and is a member of the Texas State University System. The university has an enrollment of over 36,000 students and offers more than 150 undergraduate and graduate programs. The university is classified as a Carnegie Doctoral Research Extensive institution and is home to the National Ranching Heritage Center, the Museum of Texas Tech University, and the Llano Estacado Winery.

Texas Tech University was founded in 1923 as a regional branch of Texas A&M University. The university began as an agricultural college but soon expanded its curriculum to include liberal arts, sciences, engineering, and business. In 1969, the university became an independent institution within the state system. Today, Texas Tech University is a comprehensive research university with ranked programs in many disciplines including engineering, education, business, law, agriculture, architecture, music, nursing, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine.

The main campus of Texas Tech University covers nearly 2200 acres just north of downtown Lubbock. The campus features Spanish Renaissance-style architecture and beautiful landscaping with over 300 trees species planted throughout. Facilities on campus include academic buildings; residence halls; dining facilities; libraries; recreational facilities; research institutes; museums; galleries; performance venues; administrative offices; and support services buildings.

In addition to its main campus in Lubbock, Texas Tech University operates two other campuses: TTU Health Sciences Center in Amarillo and TTUHSC El Paso Paul L Foster School of Medicine Campus in El Paso .TTUHSC also has multiple clinical training sites across West Texas including Abilene Regional Medical Center , Covenant Health System , Hendrick Medical Center , Midland Memorial Hospital , Odessa Regional Medical Center , Reese Technology Center (Lubbock) , Southwest General Hospital (Stanton) ,University Medical Center (Lubbock) .
