The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a research university in Shatin, Hong Kong. It was established in 1963 by the late Sir Feng-shan Ho and Dr. Sun Yat-sen as the first higher education institution in Hong Kong with a Chinese foundation. The university currently comprises eight constituent colleges and seven academic schools, offering over 300 undergraduate and 200 postgraduate programs.

Since its establishment, CUHK has been at the forefront of research and teaching excellence in Hong Kong, mainland China, and beyond. The university has produced many notable alumni who have made significant contributions to their respective fields, including Nobel laureate Charles Kao, former Chief Executive of Hong Kong Tung Chee-hwa, Former President of Taiwan Ma Ying-jeou, novelist Xu Zhimo, physicist Tang Laisen, chemist Wong Chi-hang Frank , engineer Chu Kit Ming Lawrence , architect Rocco Yim Sen Kwong .

Today, CUHK is an internationally competitive research university ranked among the world’s top institutions. It is also a leading member of the C9 League of Chinese universities and a partner of Universitas 21. In 2019/20 QS World University Rankings, CUHK was ranked 23rd globally and 2nd among universities in Greater China; while Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 placed it at 29th globally and 3rd in Asia Pacific region
