Travel

by Liam O'Connor

A travel is a movement of people between relatively distant geographical locations for the purposes of recreation, tourism, or business. Travel can be done by foot, bicycle, automobile, train, boat, airplane, or other means, with or without luggage, and can be one way or round trip. Travel can also include relatively short stays between successive movements.

The World Tourism Organization defines tourism more generally in terms of activities undertaken during leisure time away from home. When combined with leisure time spent at home (away-from-home travel plus stay-at-home travel), these comprise all tourist activity.

The United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible tourism practices defines it as “tourism that maximizes the benefits for local communities while minimizing negative impacts”.
