Tyrannosaurus Rex

by Liam O'Connor

Tyrannosaurus rex is one of the most famous and well-known dinosaurs. It lived during the late Cretaceous period, around 68-65 million years ago in North America. Tyrannosaurus rex was a massive creature, weighing in at around 7-8 tonnes and measuring up to 12 metres long. It was one of the largest land predators of its time.

Tyrannosaurus Rex was a carnivore, and would have preyed upon other dinosaurs such as hadrosaurs and ceratopsians. It had a large head with powerful jaws lined with sharp teeth, perfect for slicing through flesh. Its tail was long and muscular, used for balance as it ran after its prey at high speeds. Tyrannosaurus Rex could reach speeds of up to 30mph!

Fossils of Tyrannosaurus Rex have been found all over North America, including in Canada, Montana and Wyoming. The first fossilized remains were discovered in 1874 by Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden during an expedition in Wyoming. Since then, many more fossils have been found and studied by scientists all over the world.
