University of California, San Diego (UCSD) is a public research university located in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego, California, in the United States. The university occupies 2,141 acres (866 ha) near the coast of the Pacific Ocean with the main campus resting on 1,152 acres (466 ha). UCSD is organized into six undergraduate residential colleges, five academic divisions, and four professional schools. It is one of the University of California system’s 10 campuses and offers over 200 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. UCSD is ranked 14th among National Universities according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 rankings and 37th globally according to Times Higher Education’s 2019-20 rankings. The Carnegie Classification ranks it as a “Very High Research Activity” institution. UC San Diego faculty and alumni include 15 Nobel Laureates, 20 MacArthur Fellows, over 160 Fulbright Scholars, 3 Pulitzer Prize winners, and 29 members of the National Academy of Sciences.
