Umeå University ( Swedish: Umeå universitet) is a public university in Umeå in the mid-northern region of Sweden. The university was founded in 1965 and is the fifth oldest within Sweden’s present borders. It is one of Sweden’s largest universities with over 34,000 students and more than 4,000 employees.
Umeå University is one of Europe’s leading centres for medical research and offers world-class education in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, public health, nursing and occupational therapy. The university hospital, NUS, ranks among the best in Scandinavia and is an important part of both education and research.
