University of Aberdeen (UOA) is a public research university in Aberdeen, Scotland. Founded in 1495, it is the third-oldest university in Scotland and the fifth-oldest in the English-speaking world. The university aspires to be “an international centre for excellence in teaching and research”. Its motto is “Plus ultra” meaning “further beyond”.

The University of Aberdeen has a long tradition of teaching excellence and research distinction which continues today with around 500 undergraduate degree programmes and 190 postgraduate taught programmes across a wide range of disciplines. The University also offers unique study opportunities through its Erasmus+ and Study Abroad programmes.

Aberdeen is consistently ranked amongst the top 200 universities in the world and was recently ranked 140th according to THE World University Rankings 2020. In the same year, UOA was also placed joint 92nd in Europe by Times Higher Education’s European Teaching Rankings 2019. For employability, UOA ranks 3rd in Scotland according to The Complete University Guide 2021and 9th overall in the UK according to Guardian League Tables 2020.

Research at UOA covers a broad spectrum of subjects with particular strengths in energy, health & medicine, environment & food security; social sciences & humanities; business & management; computer science & engineering; physical sciences & mathematics..
