The University of Dundee is a world-renowned institution for scientific research and teaching. The University of Dundee was founded in 1881 as the University College for the North of Scotland. It was initially established as a college for training clergymen but soon began to accept students from other disciplines. In 1897, the college became part of the federal Victoria University along with colleges in Leeds and Liverpool. When Victoria University dissolved in 1907, the college changed its name to Queen’s College, Dundee and became autonomous once again. In 1954, Queen’s College was granted full university status by royal charter and became known as the University of Dundee.
The university has four main faculties: Arts & Social Sciences; Business; Education & Social Work; and Science & Engineering. Each faculty is further divided into schools and departments which offer undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.
